"START SAFE , FINISH SAFE" - Jeff Lyter
DRIVERS MUST BE AT TAILGATE FOR LOADING
Air General is cautioning all personnel of the danger of forklift drivers when
they load trucks in the absence of the driver. There is a remote possibility
that the driver may think you are finished and actually drive off before
completion. This can cause Forklifts to fall off the dock. You must ensure that
drivers attend the loading and unloading process.
EXCESSIVE SPEED ON FORKLIFT
Air General is cautioning all personnel of the danger of forklift drivers when
they don't observe safe speed limits. Speed can KILL. Safe driving must be the
rule and speeding on a forklift will not be tolerated.
EXCESSIVE COLD AND WIND CHILL
Air General is aware of the dangers of excessive cold in the warehouse and
cautions all employees to focus on proper clothing, layering etc. to avoid
unnecessary heat loss. Many of you have heard of hypothermia, which is a
dangerous condition, and needs medical immediate care.
DO NOT DRIVE ONTO SHORT TRUCKS
Air General does not permit its employees to drive onto short trucks with a
forklift. It is inherently dangerous to do so and can result in serous injury.
We also don't like you to do it because there is a very good chance you may
damage the truck due to limited maneuverability.
When driving a forklift onto a full sized trailer, you must make very sure
the driver has chocked his wheels.
Last week: Very high focus for ULD build.
Have you used the right amount of straps and spreaders? Is the Class 1
located correctly? Is there any way in which the in flight turbulence and
subsequent G forces may cause a shift? Do you know that aircraft G forces
are a much greater force than any of us may imagine?
What are you doing about checking all ULD load integrity? Are you sure
nothing is being left to chance? Do you have a good system in place for checking
each ULD before it leaves the warehouse and are you taking digital pictures of
your Class 1 loads and loaded DGs?
Is there more you can do? If your family were on the flight would you recheck
it again?
